ANNA SUI RESORT 2022
Creativity is a brewin’ – new ideas are in the air, travel is back, and the streets are 6illed with chatter and laughter. Everything is so vibrant and lively!
This brought me to the 1921 6ilm “Enchantment” with the spirited Marion Davies and gorgeous sets by Josef Urban, one of the brilliant minds behind Vienna’s Wiener Werkstaette. His dreamy designs reminded me of what a creative time in history Vienna was in the early 20th century; Josef Hoffmann’s architectural square-patterns in black and white; the highly imaginative work of Dagobert Peche and Mathilde Flö gl layered to optimum affect; the rich colors and drama of the paintings by Gustav Klimt. Everything they made, on display in this stunning 6ilm, achieved their goal of creating “a total work of art.”
It occurred to me that their exuberant creative energy is spot-on for right now, so I designed the collection and called it “Enchantment,” in honor of the movie. It is 6illed with checkerboard and windowpane patterns, multiple layers and textures, and bold hues of purple, green, red, blue, and yellow on black grounds. Graphic and undulating lines create a tableau for all of my favorite things!
The season features vintage-inspired prints in lilies of the valley, rosebuds, and 6lowers; an abundance of black and white, checkerboard in mesh, jacquard, faux fur, 6leece, and scuba; denim with Lurex and chunky tweeds, 3D lace, and many layering pieces such as kilts with shorts in the back, embroidered windbreakers, knit vests, and patterned trench coats. I also brought back my famous Madonna babydoll dress with the bow in the back, a “Clueless” inspired suit, and matching caps and bucket hats. The styling this season is all punk -- Doc Martens, t- shirts by Rebecca Zwanzig and daisy___chains necklaces and earrings by Bonnie Robbins. It’s my version of modern Wiener Werkstaette fashion.
